Dr. Rodney J. Paul is currently Professor of Sport Management at Syracuse University and developer and director of the first-of-its-kind undergraduate major in Sport Analytics. After attending North Schuylkill High School, where he continued to develop a love of sports while participating in varsity basketball and baseball, he went on to Lebanon Valley College where he earned degrees in mathematics and economics. He then went on to graduate school at Clemson University where he earned both a Master's Degree and PhD in Applied Economics.

His professional career in academics began at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana and was followed by tenures at St. Bonaventure University (NY) and at Syracuse. Rodney joined the Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse in 2011. He also developed and teaches multiple classes online as part of Athabasca University's (Canada) MBA in Hockey Management.

Rodney is the author of over 100 scholarly journal articles and book chapters, mainly on the subjects of the Economics and Finance of Sports. His research explores topics related to modeling attendance and television ratings, competitive balance, uncertainty of outcome, the efficient markets hypothesis, and consumer behavior related to the sports marketplace. His research has been presented at the MIT/Sloan Sports Analytics and Society of American Baseball Research Analytics conferences, as well as at a variety of economics and sports-related academic conferences around the world.

Popular press articles and interviews related to his research have appeared in the New York Times, ESPN the Magazine, the New York Daily News, National Public Radio, and other newspapers, websites, radio, and television outlets. He was an outside consultant on the NHL/AHL West project where western NHL teams brought their top minor league affiliates closer to their home cities, and has consulted for two NFL teams and a variety of minor league sports franchises.

Rodney is the son of Rodney G. and Linda Paul, longtime teachers in the North Schuylkill School District. He and his wife Kristin have two sons, Branden and Justin, and split time between Syracuse, NY and their home in St. Augustine, FL.
