Accessibility Statement

North Schuylkill School District wants everyone to be able to use our website, including people with disabilities.

We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard for public schools under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Wherever we can, we go further and follow WCAG 2.2 and its stricter Level AAA guidelines.

What We Have Done

  • Every page is checked with automated accessibility testing tools and by keyboard.
  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on each page.
  • Text colors meet the enhanced (AAA) contrast level, so text is easy to read.
  • Links and buttons are large enough to tap easily on a phone or tablet.
  • Images have text descriptions, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Pages fit small screens and zoomed-in text without scrolling sideways.
  • Headings, menus, and page regions are labeled so screen readers can move around each page.

Tools on This Website

  • Accessibility menu. Select the round accessibility button on any page to change the font (including the dyslexia-friendly OpenDyslexic, Andika, and FSMe fonts), make text larger or smaller, add extra spacing between letters and words, or underline all links. Your choices are remembered as you move between pages.
  • Translation. Use the language menu at the top of any page to read the site in another language. Translations are provided by Google Translate and may not be perfect.

Known Limitations

  • Documents. Some older PDF documents, especially scanned ones, may not work well with screen readers. We are reviewing our documents, starting with the ones families use most. If you need a document in another format, please contact us.
  • Other websites. Some links go to services run by other organizations, such as the parent portal, athletic schedules, cafeteria menus, and Board Policies. The District does not control those sites. If you have trouble using one, contact us and we will help you get the information.
