Health and Safety Update (12/21/2020)

North Schuylkill Spartans, we are providing you with this update to keep all stakeholders informed. An elementary support staff member and a high school student tested positive for COVID-19. We also have two probable positive cases in the elementary school. Contact tracing resulted in no direct contacts. Starting Tuesday, we will no longer send emails and phone calls for every positive COVID-19 case directly to parents. When we receive a report of a student or employee testing positive, we will post the information on our Spartan COVID Tracker located on our district website. We will continue to communicate with our learning community using real-time updated information concerning COVID-19 positive cases. Real-time case information data can be found on our District Website on the COVID-19 page at www.northschuylkill.net. On the Spartan COVID Tracker, you will be able to access the real-time North Schuylkill School District COVID-19 Reports. If you follow the North Schuylkill COVID Tracker, you will see active cases within the most recent 14-day period. Cases that are listed as “active” on the tracker were individuals who were present in a building with symptoms or were present within 48 hours prior to developing symptoms or receiving a positive test result. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay Spartan Strong!

The symptoms of COVID-19 can look like other common illnesses, like colds, strep throat, or allergies. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 in children are fever and cough. However, children may have any of these signs or symptoms of COVID-19 including, but not limited to Fever or Chills, Cough, Nasal Congestion or Runny Nose, New Loss of Taste or Smell, Sore Throat, Shortness of Breath or Difficulty Breathing, Diarrhea, Nausea or Vomiting, Stomachache, Tiredness, Headache, Muscle or Body Aches.

If your child has symptoms or may have been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19, please keep them home and have them evaluated by a medical provider. If you are waiting for any test results, please keep them home until cleared to return. Schools have a significant role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and we appreciate the fullest cooperation of all parents to keep their own and other students, as well as our staff, safe.
