Valerie Malukas — School Psychologist
I have been a school psychologist for 18.5 years and part of the North Schuylkill School District for 10 years. I started my career as a Special Education Teacher, as I also hold my K–12 Special Education Certification, and have twenty years of experience in the Special Education field. I am now a Level II Educational Specialist in School Psychology through the state of Pennsylvania. From 2010 to 2020, I also worked part-time as a Behavioral Specialist and Mobile Therapist through Behavioral Health Wraparound Services, in addition to working as a school psychologist. I am also certified in administering the ADOS-2, an assessment tool that helps identify Autism while working one-to-one directly with the student.
I enjoy my role as a school psychologist because I get to work with a diverse population of students and families and meet their many needs. I advocate for the students as well as collaborate with school staff and families. The role of a school psychologist allows me to assist with the academic, behavioral, cognitive, adaptive, and medical needs a student may present within the school setting.
Outside of being a school psychologist, I am a mother to a 10-year-old son. We enjoy traveling and vacationing, especially at amusement parks such as Dollywood and Universal Studios Florida. My son and I have a love for the fall and Halloween season and Christmas. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and baking.
My time at North Schuylkill has allowed me to grow professionally and personally. No two days in this job are the same, and flexibility is the key to best serving our unique population of students, families, and staff.
